{"id":2451,"date":"2021-01-07T19:16:11","date_gmt":"2021-01-07T20:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/karenkeyhani.com\/en\/?page_id=2451"},"modified":"2024-05-25T09:52:46","modified_gmt":"2024-05-25T09:52:46","slug":"short-biography","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/karenkeyhani.top\/?page_id=2451","title":{"rendered":"Short Biography"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Karen Keyhani\u00a0(b.1979)<\/strong> belongs to the new movement of contemporary music in Iran; a movement that has its roots as much in the Persian classical music as in Western contemporary classical music.\u00a0As a composer and Santour player Karen has been inspired by contemporary and classical poetry as well as traditional music.<\/p>\n<p>Karen&#8217;s music covers a wide range of contemporary classical and Persian traditional music, collaborative improvisation, music for theatre, performance art and children\u2019s musical theatre. His music has been commissioned, performed and recorded by several ensembles and orchestras such as Tehran Symphonic Orchestra, Iran National Orchestra, Musikfabrik (Cologne), Proton (Bern), Divertimento (Milan), MAM (Cologne-Berlin), Matka (Geneva), Mise-en (NYC),\u00a0 Nivak ensemble (Tehran), and soloists such as Bridget Kibbey (NYC), Elise Jacoberger (Bern), Layla Ramezan (Lausanne), Rocco Rescigno (Trieste), and Martina Rudic (Milan) among others.\u00a0During recent years, he has released seven solo and collaborative albums in Iran and the United States and his scores have been published by Mahoor Institute of Culture and Arts in Tehran.<\/p>\n<p>Karen was selected in 2013 by\u00a0<em>R\u00e9publique et canton de Gen\u00e8ve<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0EOFA (Embassy of Foreign Artists, Geneva) as composer in residence for a joint project with MATKA ensemble of contemporary music.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2016, Karen\u2019s piece\u00a0<em>As Far As Possible<\/em>\u00a0for santour and ensemble was selected and performed in the 60th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Music by Divertimento Ensemble conducted by Sandro Gorli.<\/p>\n<p>His two albums <em>Only That Spark and Nothing More<\/em> and <em>Garden of Leaflessness<\/em> were, in turn, the finalist and the winner of the Barbad Award for the best Iranian contemporary music album in the 32<sup>nd<\/sup> and 33<sup>rd<\/sup> Fajr Music Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Karen is a lecturer in composition, orchestration, and contemporary music notation\u00a0in Tehran University of Art as well as The University of Tehran, and teaches history of western music in Tehran Music Technical High School for Girls.
